
Friends of Orleans County Marine Parks was created under the auspices of the Oak Orchard Neighborhood Association. Its purpose is to support improvements to the public lands controlled under the Office of the Orleans County Marine Parks. It will seek and receive funding from tax-supported agencies (including but not limited to Federal, State, and local governments), and assist in recommending improvements to the Parks that its members believe will be beneficial to the public, and/or as approved by the Orleans County Parks manager.
- Elected officers include OONA members Penny Miller (President), Ken DeRoller (Vice-President), Lynne Menz (Treasurer), and Frank Panczyszyn (Secretary).
- Ex-officio (non-voting) members include OONA President, Ken Martin and OCMP Manager, Dawn Borchert and other OONA Officers and Members interested in assisting on FOCMP activities.
- FOCMP received its 501(c)(3) tax exemption status from the Dept. of Treasury IRS effective September 25, 2023.
- FOCMP by-laws were adopted on October 18, 2023, and amended April, 2025.
- FOCMP received its New York State Exemption Certificate (ST-119) effective January 9, 2024.
With the non-profit status, FOCMP began applying for, receiving and using grant money to improve OONA Concerts and the Orleans County Marine Park.
The Officers of FOCMP will be inviting OONA members to participate by:
- Sharing ideas on what projects or improvements we might want to pursue;
- Volunteer to be on a project committee to help write and administer grants;
- Suggest grant opportunities to fund projects.
